Our Tutors

Juliet Heslewood

Juliet HeslewoodJuliet Heslewood studied for her first degree at the university of London and later gained her MA from Toulouse.   For over twenty-five years she lived in France where she devised and led study tours on art and architecture for a variety of organisations and where she also translated guide books on regional architecture in the Lot.  Whilst concentrating on her writing career she published two collections of world folk-tales with Oxford University Press and a Radio Four play, the true story of a strolling player, that featured Dame Judi Dench in the lead.  She also wrote ‘The History of Western Painting’ for young people that was published in twelve languages and ‘The History of Western Sculpture’ that went into nine languages.  She has also written fiction for magazines as well as other children’s books.
Her main interests in teaching the history of art are in the Romanesque period (as a result of her close knowledge of local sites in France) and Post-Impressionism due to her life-long enthusiasm for the work of Gauguin.  Since returning to live in England, near Oxford, she has recovered her earlier fascination in the work of the Pre-Raphaelites and strives to maintain all her academic activities as well as a return to writing.
