Ineke Berlyn
Ineke Berlyn completed the City & Guilds Part 1 Course in Patchwork and Quilting at Gloscat in Cheltenham with Di Wells. I then continued with the more design orientated Part 2 at the Groomery Study Centre in Droitwich with Edwina Mackinnon and finished with a 'Highly Recommended' in 2001. My interest and involvement led me to be invited to become the co-ordinator for the Midlands Region of the Quilter's Guild - a position I still hold.
I simply love textiles and thoroughly enjoyed both courses where I learned so much. Throughout these years my quilts have been exhibited at Quilts UK in Malvern and in 2002 my quilt 'Omaha' was selected for entry in 'Transforming Tradition', an exhibition organised by the Quilter's Guild in Halifax - it also won best large wallhanging at Malvern in 2003. In November 2002 I won first prize with a three dimensional piece in the competition 'Salt and all its Facets' organised by the Salt Museum in Delden, Holland.
The inspiration for my landscape quilts comes from the contemporary Dutch painter Ton Schulten. Almost all of the fabrics used in these art quilts are hand-dyed with either procion dyes or indigo. Recently I have also started to experiment with printing and embellishing the hand-dyed fabrics, the results of which can be seen in the Dolphin quilts and others.
