Family History: Tracing your Ancestors
Start: 20 August 2010 at 6:00 p.m.
End: 22 August 2010 at 2:00 p.m.

This course, suitable for both beginners and those with some experience who need to review more recent developments, will consider and discuss the standard methods and sources for family history research, and, where applicable, link this to appropriate software sources and internet sites. This will include Civil Registration (Births, Marriages and Deaths) from 1837 to 2005, Census (1841 - 1911 - every 10 years), Parish registers (1538 to the present), Wills (1400 - the present), The National Archives (for Military sources) and other areas of interest to those attending.
The tutor will present and demonstrate the most useful websites with tips and advice on how to obtain the information you need to assist you in your research and there will be an opportunity to look up individual entries as we progress. He will also put forward suggestions for the preparation of a written family history and family tree.
Individual computers will not be available so please bring a laptop with wireless compatability for personal research. Access to all websites will be available through the tutor’s subscription. Suitable for both beginners and those with some experience.
